Charlie Troup, Class of 2012

Charlie Troup joined CHS on a Sixth-Form Music Scholarship in 2010, and enjoyed two very happy years at the school before taking up a place to study History & Politics at Oxford.

He graduated with the top First in his year in 2015, and after ten months spent teaching in France returned to Oxford to study for the MPhil in Modern British & European History. He was generously assisted throughout by the Old Waconian’s Educational Fund, and graduated in 2018 with the best dissertation prize for his thesis on the reception of free-market ideas on the British right in the 1970s and 80s.

Since then Charlie has moved to the USA to begin a PhD in modern European history at Yale University, where he works on the reception of free-market liberalism in late 20th century political thought, particularly in France and Britain.
